Luke 3:8 As we look at chapter 3 this week, I want to begin with verse 8. They had grown up with the ASSUMPTION that since they were Abraham's descendant they were already in a right relationship with God. John had to change their false confidence. John's desire was to change their hearts and their lives. It makes me wonder if I'm making false assumptions. What am I missing? I'm not saying, "Let's live in fear and guilt that we might be doing the wrong thing" but rather I want to open myself up this week and allow God to teach me whatever he wants me to learn. I want to grow.
How about you? Do you know everything? Do you have it all together? Why not stop and pray that God opens your eyes this week and teaches you things you never knew before. But be careful. It might change your life.

I (Jared) am sometimes guilty of thinking I have it all together and then I read something or my wife humbles me (I love her for that!)and I am reminded that I have a long way to go. Having Lucas has also really opened my eyes too.
ReplyDeleteI also notice that God can work miracles in our lives when we strive to have open hearts that can be molded by God. This last month Kate and I have had a better relationship because of spending an hour at night (9-10pm) with God. I have really enjoyed having this time set aside at the end of each day and the blessings that come from it.
Tim, I feel that one of the ways to get rid of the assumptions you mentioned is to spend time in the word. While I don't always succeed in turning off the tv and reading from 9-10, the times I do I can tell that it really helps me grow. There is a quote from Dave Ramsey that encourages me to spend time not only in the Word but in other books of encouragement as well: "You will be the same person you are today except for the books you read and the people you meet." I feel he is right.
